Abstract

The communicative approach to language teaching emphasizes real-life interaction and the development of communicative competence. Within this framework, authentic texts—materials not originally designed for pedagogical purposes—play a pivotal role in bridging the gap between classroom learning and real-world language use. This article provides a theoretical analysis of the effectiveness of authentic texts in communicative language teaching (CLT). Drawing on established literature in applied linguistics and second language acquisition, the paper argues that authentic texts enhance learners’ motivation, linguistic competence, and intercultural awareness. Despite challenges related to text complexity, pedagogical scaffolding can ensure accessibility and maximize learning outcomes. The findings highlight the indispensable role of authentic texts in communicative methodology and suggest directions for further research.
