COMPLICATIONS AFTER BLEPHAROPLASTY FOR THE TREATMENT OF BLEPHAROCHALASIS: A CONTEMPORARY REVIEW

Blepharochalasis is a rare eyelid disorder characterized by recurrent episodes of painless eyelid edema followed by progressive thinning, atrophy, and redundancy of the eyelid skin. Surgical correction through blepharoplasty remains the primary treatment modality for patients with functional and aesthetic impairment. Despite generally favorable outcomes, postoperative complications may significantly affect functional and cosmetic results. This review summarizes current evidence regarding the incidence, pathogenesis, risk factors, prevention, and management of complications following blepharoplasty in patients with blepharochalasis. Particular attention is paid to dry eye syndrome, lagophthalmos, eyelid malposition, hematoma, infection, scarring, asymmetry, and recurrence of eyelid deformities.
