This article examines the opportunities and challenges associated with integrating generative artificial intelligence tools, particularly ChatGPT, into English language teaching at technical universities. The pedagogical potential of AI-assisted instruction for developing professional language competencies is analysed alongside the risks related to academic integrity, critical thinking, and equitable access. Drawing on recent research and classroom practice, the article proposes a framework for responsible and effective use of generative AI in English for Specific Purposes instruction.
