Abstract

This paper reviews biotechnological approaches to wastewater treatment, focusing on the role of microorganisms in removing organic pollutants, nutrients, and heavy metals from industrial and municipal effluents. It discusses activated sludge systems, biofilm reactors, constructed wetlands, and emerging technologies such as microbial fuel cells, evaluating their efficiency and applicability across different wastewater treatment contexts.
