Soft tissue birth canal tears remain one of the most common obstetric complications encountered during vaginal delivery and are associated with significant physical, psychological, and social consequences for women during the postpartum period. Perineal, vaginal, and cervical injuries may adversely affect maternal well-being by contributing to persistent pain, impaired mobility, urinary and fecal dysfunction, sexual disorders, emotional distress, and reduced social functioning. The impact of these complications extends beyond the immediate postpartum period and may substantially influence long-term quality of life. Contemporary approaches to postpartum care increasingly emphasize patient-reported outcomes and health-related quality of life as important indicators of recovery and treatment effectiveness. This review examines current evidence regarding the effect of soft tissue birth canal tears on women's quality of life during both early and late postpartum periods. Particular attention is given to physical recovery, psychological adaptation, sexual health, social functioning, and factors associated with delayed rehabilitation. Understanding the multidimensional consequences of birth-related trauma is essential for optimizing postpartum management strategies, improving maternal health outcomes, and enhancing overall quality of life among affected women.
