Preterm birth remains one of the leading causes of neonatal morbidity and mortality worldwide. Despite advances in obstetric care, the underlying mechanisms contributing to spontaneous preterm labor are not fully understood. Increasing evidence suggests that alterations in the vaginal microbiota play a critical role in the pathogenesis of preterm birth.
