The Turkestan General Governorate was established in 1867 by the Russian Empire to govern its Central Asian territories. The Governorate was divided into several provinces, including Syr-Darya, Semirechye, and Transcaspian Oblast.The region's population was ethnically diverse, consisting of Kazakhs, Uzbeks, Tajiks, and other Central Asian groups.
