THE EVOLVING PARADIGM OF THE TRANSLATOR IN POST-EDITING: COGNITIVE AND PROFESSIONAL METAMORPHOSES

The linguistic industry is undergoing a radical transition from human-centric translation to Machine Translation Post-Editing (MTPE). While Neural Machine Translation (NMT) offers unprecedented speed, it introduces complex cognitive hurdles that redefine the translator's role. This study utilizes the IMRAD framework to examine the "Cognitive Friction" inherent in the post-editing process and the subsequent "Professional Metamorphosis" of the linguist. Through an analysis of attentional resources, linguistic priming, and professional agency, we argue that the post-editor is not a mere corrector but an augmented linguistic consultant. The findings suggest that the cognitive load of monitoring fluent but flawed machine output requires a new pedagogical approach focusing on metacognitive skills.
