Abstract

This article explores the multifaceted contributions of Mahmudkhoja Behbudiy to the Jadid movement in Turkestan and compares his pedagogical, literary, and social reform ideas with those of other prominent Jadid intellectuals, such as Abdurauf Fitrat and Munavvar Qari Abdurashidkhanov. Utilizing qualitative and comparative research methods, the study analyzes Behbudiy’s unique role as a pioneer of Uzbek national drama and a tireless advocate for educational modernization. The findings highlight how Behbudiy’s "New Method" (Usuli Jadid) schools and his seminal work Padarkush (The Parricide) laid the groundwork for a modern national consciousness. By juxtaposing Behbudiy’s approach with Fitrat’s sociopolitical critiques and Munavvar Qari’s organizational leadership, the article illustrates the diversity within the Jadid movement while emphasizing their collective impact on the intellectual and cultural awakening of Central Asia at the dawn of the 20th century.
