Abstract

This article examines the role of English literature in fostering intercultural competence among EFL learners. It argues that literary texts serve as powerful cultural artifacts that expose students to diverse perspectives, social values, and worldviews. Through engagement with characters, settings, and narrative conflicts, learners develop cultural awareness, empathy, and critical thinking. The article explains how literature-based activities—such as comparative cultural analysis, reflective discussions, and creative interpretation—enhance learners’ ability to interact across cultures. Findings highlight that integrating English literature into EFL classes strengthens linguistic proficiency and deepens intercultural understanding.
