Autizm spektr buzilishi (ASB) bolalarda ijtimoiy muloqot, nutq va xulq-atvor rivojida turli darajadagi cheklovlarga olib keladi. Ko‘plab autizmli bolalar og‘zaki nutq orqali fikr bildira olmaydi yoki juda cheklangan so‘z boyligiga ega bo‘ladi. Bunday holatlarda muqobil va yordamchi kommunikatsiya vositalari, jumladan PECS kartalari, juda samarali vosita bo‘lib xizmat qiladi.
