Abstract

This article presents a detailed analysis of sentence classification in English grammar based on the communicative aim of the speaker. The study outlines the functional types of sentences—declarative, interrogative, imperative, and exclamatory—and explains their roles in discourse. Special attention is given to the declarative sentence as the most frequent and fundamental sentence type in both spoken and written communication. The article examines the structural features, grammatical patterns, and communicative functions of declarative sentences, including affirmative and negative forms. It also discusses their dominant role in academic writing, narrative discourse, and everyday interaction, illustrating how declarative sentences convey factual information, opinions, and personal experiences. The study emphasizes the importance of understanding sentence types for effective communication and language learning.
