This article explores the role of affixes in shaping word meaning and expanding vocabulary in English. Affixation, including prefixes, suffixes, infixes, and circumfixes, is one of the primary means of word formation in English, affecting both lexical meaning and grammatical function. The study investigates the types of affixes, their semantic and syntactic impact, and their functional application in modern English. By analyzing examples from literary, technical, and everyday language, the research demonstrates that affixes not only modify existing meanings but also allow for the creation of new lexical items, contributing to linguistic productivity. The findings underline the importance of affixation in English word formation, semantics, and stylistics, highlighting its role in communication, language learning, and translation.
