Zamonaviy sanoat ishlab chiqarish jarayonlarida atmosfera ifloslanishi va chiqindilar hajmining ortishi ekologik muammolarning keskinlashuviga sabab bo‘lib kelmoqda. Xususan, ko‘mir, neft, gaz va boshqa yoqilg‘i turlaridan foydalanishda, metallurgiya va kimyo sanoatida, qurilish materiallari ishlab chiqarishda (sement, g‘isht, ohak va boshqalar) havo tarkibiga turli zararli aralashmalar, qattiq zarrachalar hamda is gazi, azot oksidlari, oltingugurt birikmalari singari moddalar chiqib ketadi. Ushbu ifloslantiruvchi moddalar inson salomatligiga, ekotizimlarga hamda iqlimga sezilarli zarar yetkazishi mumkin.
