XIX asr oxiri XX asrning boshlarida amerika adabiyotiga yangi, dunyoni qanday bo’lsa shunday tariflashga harakat qiluvchi ijodkorlar - realistlar kirib kela boshladi. Ushbu tadqiqot realizm deya atalmish yo’nalishning boshqa oqimlardan farqlari o’xshashliklari hamda uning eng ko’zga ko’ringan namoyondalari asarlariga qisqacha tarif berib o’tadi. Qo’laversa, ushbu oqimning san’atda tugan o’rniga ham to’htalib iqtibos keltirgan holda tadqiq etadi.
