INDEPENDENT CLINICAL AND IMMUNOLOGICAL PREDICTORS OF REACTIVITY TO METAL-CONTAINING OCCLUDERS IN CHILDREN WITH CONGENITAL SEPTAL HEART DEFECTS

The study identified independent predictors of post-implantation reactivity in 126 children who underwent transcatheter closure of congenital septal heart defects with a metal-containing occluder. Patients were retrospectively allocated into groups without reactivity (n=45), with transient (n=42) and persistent (n=39) reactivity after at least six months of follow-up. Eleven candidate variables were entered into a binary logistic regression model. Nine parameters retained independent significance, with the highest odds ratios obtained for eosinophil cationic protein (OR=3.540), the nickel patch test (OR=3.262) and IL-13 (OR=3.014). IL-5 and IL-6 lost significance after multivariate adjustment, indicating their partly duplicating informational value.
