The rapid advancement of artificial intelligence (AI) has rapidly transformed the field of translation studies. Neural machine translation (NMT) and large language models (LLMs) have enhanced the speed, efficiency, and accessibility of multilingual communication, allowing global interaction at an unprecedented scale. However, alongside these benefits, important concerns have emerged regarding translation quality, cultural accuracy, ethical responsibility, and the future of the human translator. This paper examines both the opportunities and risks associated with AI in translation. It argues that although AI technologies have transformed translation workflows, they do not eliminate the need for human expertise. Instead, AI is redefining the professional role of translators, shifting their focus toward post-editing, quality control, cultural mediation, and technological competence. The study concludes that the future of translation lies in a collaborative model integrating human intelligence and artificial intelligence.
