This article examines the polyfunctional nature of punctuation in contemporary Uzbek and English. Punctuation marks, beyond their traditional role of demarcating sentence boundaries, perform multiple semantic, syntactic, and pragmatic functions. By analyzing written texts in both languages, this study highlights the multifunctional character of punctuation and its role in shaping meaning, guiding intonation, emphasizing elements, and maintaining textual coherence. The research draws upon examples from literary, journalistic, and academic texts to illustrate how punctuation serves as a cognitive and communicative tool across linguistically distinct systems.
