Hydnum repandum, commonly known as the hedgehog mushroom, is a wild basidiomycete distinguished by spines instead of gills beneath the cap. Forming ectomycorrhizal associations with tree roots, it plays an important role in forest ecosystems. Scientific studies highlight its high nutritional value as well as strong antioxidant, antimicrobial, and antibiofilm activities. In the food industry it is prized for its delicate, nut-like flavor, while in the pharmaceutical field its bioactive compounds show considerable promise.
