PEDIATRIC FACIAL NERVE NEUROPATHY: DIAGNOSTIC AND CLINICAL CHARACTERISTICS

Abstract

This thesis discusses the diagnostic and clinical characteristics of pediatric facial nerve neuropathy, a rare but clinically significant condition in children. The work highlights the etiological diversity of the disorder, including congenital, infectious, traumatic, and idiopathic causes. The clinical manifestations, such as acute facial asymmetry, speech disturbances, and taste impairment, are analyzed in detail. Diagnostic approaches are described, with emphasis on neurological examination, electrophysiological methods, and neuroimaging. Special attention is paid to treatment strategies, including corticosteroid therapy, antiviral treatment, physiotherapy, and surgical interventions in severe cases. The prognosis is generally favorable, although delayed treatment may result in persistent deficits. The findings underline the importance of early recognition and timely multidisciplinary management to ensure optimal functional and psychosocial outcomes in pediatric patients.
