Abstract

Blood tests are essential for managing, diagnosing, and preventing chronic illnesses. Despite this, because pertinent material is usually dispersed across several disease areas and patient demographics, it can be difficult to get a thorough understanding of the clinical significance of blood testing. Primary care providers may find it challenging to follow best practices for blood testing across various conditions and standards due to the lack of compiled data. With 60–70% of clinical decisions relying on test results, laboratory tests are essential for the screening, diagnosis, and treatment of medical problems. The testing cycle can be broken down into three stages: the pre-analytical phase, which begins with a clinical question and takes place prior to the sample arriving in the laboratory; the analytical phase, which takes place in the laboratory; and the post-analytical phase, which includes reporting and interpretation of results, clinical decision-making, potential revision of the clinical question, and additional testing [1,2,3].
