DEVELOPMENT OF TRADITIONAL MUSICIANS IN KASHKADARYA REGION IN THE SECOND HALF OF THE 20TH CENTURY

This article explores the development, structural evolution, and cultural preservation of traditional music genres in the Kashkadarya region during the second half of the 20th century. This specific period witnessed a complex interplay between the preservation of ancient musical heritages and the integration of Soviet institutional frameworks. The research comprehensively examines the main branches of the regional musical tradition, focusing heavily on the bakhshi (epic storytelling) art, the transmission of doston (epics), and local variants of classical instrumental and vocal performance. Special attention is given to the institutionalization of folklore through the establishment of music schools, regional ensembles, and state-sponsored festivals, which helped safeguard local identity amid modernization. By analyzing archival data, field recordings, and oral histories, the study highlights the historical continuity of Kashkadarya's musical legacy and the crucial role of master-apprentice traditions in passing down this unique cultural heritage to subsequent generations.
