Abstract

Iron deficiency anemia (IDA) is one of the most common nutritional disorders affecting pregnant women worldwide. During pregnancy, the demand for iron increases significantly because of fetal growth, placental development, and expansion of maternal blood volume. If this increased demand is not met, iron deficiency anemia may develop, leading to adverse health outcomes for both the mother and the fetus. This article reviews the causes, risk factors, clinical manifestations, diagnosis, prevention, treatment, and the impact of iron deficiency anemia during pregnancy.
