Abstract

The rapid expansion of digital technologies, social media platforms, and global communication networks has fundamentally transformed the structure of modern information environments. In these conditions, media competence has become one of the key competencies necessary for effective participation in social, educational, and professional life. This article analyzes the theoretical and methodological foundations of media competence formation in the modern world, identifies its major developmental directions, and examines the pedagogical, technological, psychological, and socio-cultural factors influencing this process. The study is based on a systematic and competency-based approach and integrates scientific perspectives related to media literacy, digital culture, information security, and critical thinking. The findings demonstrate that media competence is a multidimensional construct involving analytical, communicative, technological, ethical, and reflexive abilities. The article also emphasizes the role of web technologies, interactive pedagogical methods, and digital educational environments in fostering media competence. The research concludes that media competence formation is a strategic priority for modern education systems and a necessary condition for developing critically thinking and socially responsible individuals in the digital age.
