Abstract

Social media influencers on platforms such as Instagram and TikTok play a growing role in shaping beauty ideals and normalizing plastic surgery. This study examines how influencer content affects body image and drives demand for cosmetic procedures. Using a mixed-methods approach — a survey of 500 participants and thematic analysis of 60 influencer posts the study finds a significant association between influencer exposure and body dissatisfaction (r = .54) and surgical openness (r = .47). Three key strategies were identified: empowerment narratives, performed authenticity, and aspirational normalization. The findings highlight the need for content disclosure regulations and media literacy education.
